bookmark_borderLearn how to diet CORRECTLY!

The Atkins diet, South Beach diet, Paleo diet, Baby food diet, The clean program, The Blood Type diet, The Cookie diet, The lemonade cleanse diet.  The list of Fad diets, aka “crash diets” goes on and on.

Hopefully, if you are reading this, you haven’t fallen victim to one of these ridiculous diets. In general, they are all gimmicks that are designed to give you an answer for a “quick fix” or immediate weight loss that fail to hit the mark and can even be dangerous for you.

In the meantime, I would like to discuss with you the SIMPLICITY of correct dieting.

First, I have been training and dieting myself for many years now.  I am conscious of EVERY single thing I eat and if my workout routine makes my muscles bigger or smaller. I have been doing this to achieve an certain physique or image of myself that to me represents the “perfect body.”

But here’s the thing, and its a BIG thing. . . That’s me.

It’s not you

Everyone one else would generally be happy if they lost a few pounds, or dropped a few pant sizes or even built a little muscle.  The vast majority of people don’t even want to look like super built, muscular men and women!

So, instead of being enticed by some sort of extreme diet with promises of making you look like Brad Pitt in Fight Club, follow a diet protocol that works for YOU!

The best part is, I’m about to tell you what to do that is so incredibly easy that I promise it can make anyone lose weight, ANYONE!

All you have to do is… count your calories!!

That’s it.  There is no gimmick here.  Just the truth.  And I think the truth is actually sometimes the problem for losing weight. . .

A lot of people are afraid of the truth, afraid of the simplicity of it, or afraid to admit that you ACTUALLY know what to do already!  You tell yourself, “it can’t be this easy.”

So instead you opt for the newest fad diet because somewhere it said it had the NEWEST WEIGHT LOSS SECRET for losing weight!

Well people, good thing you have someone like me to tell you the truth.

So for the average person who sees dieting as this daunting task, simply counting calories in order to REDUCE the amount of calories you consume, can be the easiest and safest way to go!

Think of this as an introduction to nutrition.

If I, the trainer, go to you who has really no idea what dieting and nutrition is and suddenly bombard you and say, “OK, no more sweets, no more bread, no pasta.  Only brown rice and chicken.”  You will ultimately do this for a week and then just give up because it was way to difficult.

As somebody new to the lifestyle, I cannot expect you to automatically live the way I do just because in my mind it is easy for me, so it should be easy for you too.

You have to crawl before you can walk.  It is as simple as that.

Then, once you have the counting of the calories down pat, then you can move on to counting the macro nutrients you eat (carbs, fats, protiens).

The process goes on and on till you have a full grasp of correct dieting and all along the way you are losing weight!

Now you know how simple it really is.  There are no secrets or magical diets.  Don’t you think if there were, everyone would be skinny?

Stop falling for the mass commercialized fad diets and START doing what makes sense for YOU!

bookmark_borderMYTH: “if I train longer, ill burn more fat”

BUSTED:  Look, training longer is not synonyms with training harder.  If one person walks 1 mile in 20 min and another person runs 1 mile in 8 minutes, who do you think exerted more energy?  The answer is obvious, the person who ran 1 mile in 8 minutes clearly exercised with a increased level of intensity and with out a doubt burnt more calories than the other guy!

Same goes for the person who lifted weights intensely for 45 minutes as opposed to the person who lifted weights for 2 hours.

Your body is a well oiled machine and if you think you can out-smart it, you are wrong!

There are a multitude of immediate physiological responses to high intensity training that are just not present in moderate, longer exercising routines.

There are numerous studies that show how more intense exercise for shorter periods of time is more effective at burning fat than long, drawn out routines.intense biceps curls

And look, I know what you might be thinking now… You are thinking I am telling you to go do HIIT training or some sort of crazy, intense routine.  Nope.

What I am saying is maybe your routine can be shortened by a few minutes to give it the extra “edge.”

So if your routine is 1 hour and you have a set amount of exercises you need to complete, challenge yourself to finish the routine in 45min with the same amount of exercises you’d perform in the 1 hour.

I can guarantee that you will burn more fat and see faster results doing this for 1 month as opposed to your older, slower routine!

bookmark_borderSTOP! Where are you getting your health and fitness info from?

I want to share with you a very quick, and interesting story from my past that has nothing to do with fitness, yet it has everything to do with where you are getting your information!

Some time ago, when I was still in college pursuing my degree in criminal justice (yes, i have a degree in criminal justice and I am now a fitness business owner.  I suppose I am like most who get their degrees then end up doing something completely different!)

I had this one exceptional professor.

He holds a degree in criminal justice himself, 27 years on the job experience, and 8 of those years as a police chief.  He was extremely informative, always had great stories, with many lessons learned from those stories. I learned a great deal about police and the criminal justice system I would say mostly from this one professor.

Then continuing my degree, I eventually transferred schools, and in the aftermath of that long, and drawn out headache, I had to take the same class I had taken in the previous school over again!

So this professor was a young guy, looked like he was in his late 20’s early 30’s.  He had a PhD in criminal justice, which I would say is actually quite impressive, but he was never a police officer, wasn’t a chief of police, no background in law; basically his experience came from the textbooks he read in college.  Whenever I would ask a detailed question, he’d just respond with “yeah, I suppose that could happen,” Or “its quite possible.”

I really just wanted to tell this guy that I probably had more knowledge than him based on what my last, EXPERIENCED professor taught me!

I trust by now you have uncovered the point to my story.  Just because the person giving you advice may have a fancy degree or is in a position regarded as “the most knowledgeable individual in their field,” it may not always be the case.

In my time in the fitness industry, I have meet several doctors, nutritionists, and dietitians whose advice seemed a bit questionable to me.  And in this industry, you can sometimes make that assessment even on the persons appearance!

I’m personally not going to take nutrition advice from an dietitian who I can visually see they need to lose at least 4 pant sizes. Are YOU going to take the advice?

And just today, I was reading an article in a magazine and some doctor was saying how eating hot and sour soup from panda express is a good health choice when you are on the go and want to lose weight.  And I bet for a second you just said to yourself, “is that really true? Well I suppose so since a doctor said it…” STOP!

Eating hot and sour soup is NOT a good health choice.  Yeah, its only 100 calories. But has little to no nutritional value and not to mention has about 1000mgs of sodium.  If I ate a small amount of french fries up to 100 calories, i’d probably still loose weight just because I would be extremely low in calories, and I even bet the fries have less sodium

Now please don’t go eating french fries, that’s not what I am saying.  I just wanted to point out that your so called credible information may not always be the most sensible.

Look, I am a fitness professional and personal trainer.  I have no fancy degrees and am not a dietitian.

What I do have though is years of experience working out, dieting, and taking supplements personally combined with a ton of trial and error.  I have learned what actually works and what does not.  I have a dedication to my craft that goes hand in hand with my business. And most importantly, I practice what I preach.

The next person that gives you fitness and nutrition advice, make sure that they are practicing the advice they give you themselves!  Make sure that they are credible, not just in their knowledge, but in the experience they have in their own lifestyle, AND the ability to understand YOURS.
